About SwimRun

SwimRun is about experiencing nature in the purest possible way, respecting, appreciating – and delighting in – the environment you’re moving through. There are no transitions between the multiple swimming and running legs – it’s just you and the equipment you start with getting you from start to finish – we will, of course provide food and drink to fuel you along the way. You need to stay with your partner all day, supporting each other and sharing the day, so keep that in mind when you’re choosing your teammate. Life-long friendships have been cemented through SwimRun.

The first ever Swimrun race wasn’t a commercial race. In 2002, four Swedish guys wondered what it would take to traverse the 75km Stockholm archipelago (a string of 26 islands) from Sandhamn to Utö under their own steam. The result? They made it, but it took 28 hours!

The next year they did it again though and the SwimRun idea started to gain momentum. Then in 2006, adventure racers Michael Lemmel and Mats Skott were asked to turn it into the first professional SwimRun race. The rest, as they say, is history and there are now over 500 known swimrun races worldwide.
